Meet Fawad

A year ago, Fawad Firdous made a courageous decision to move to Canada. His background as an African Pakistani played a significant role in his quest for a more inclusive and diverse community. This led him to Toronto, where he wanted to work towards a better life for his future and his family. 

However, for the first time, Fawad faced the challenge of unemployment. As time went on without finding the right job, he began to doubt his skills. Then, he found Canoo, which connected him to the Rotman School of Management’s Intercultural Skills Lab at the perfect time!

Thanks to the Rotman Intercultural Skills Lab partnering with Canoo, newcomers to Canada can access courses that will equip them with tools for success in their field. Fawad enrolled in the Career Shift Tech Sales program, moving closer to achieving his professional goals.

The Career Shift program turned out to be a game-changer for Fawad. He learned crucial soft skills and received career guidance. The diverse, like-minded individuals class provided a strong support network, which was also instrumental in rebuilding his confidence.

By the end of the program, Fawad’s hard work and perseverance paid off. He received multiple job offers and was elected Valedictorian!
