Embracing Inclusivity

Every year, International Women’s Day celebrates a theme to remind us of the collective responsibility we share in creating a world where every woman feels a sense of belonging and empowerment. This year, the theme for International Women’s Day 2024 is Inspire Inclusion. When we inspire others to understand and value women’s inclusion, we pave the way for more equitable communities.

For well over a century, International Women’s Day has served as a platform for collective global activism and celebration. It’s a day that travels across borders, organizations, and groups. It belongs to all those committed to forging women’s equality! As world-renowned feminist Gloria Steinem once said, “The story of women’s struggle for equality belongs to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights.”

Najiba-khan Jalil Zada was born in 1917 in Koya. In 1924, she was the first girl to enroll in a public school in the Kurdistan Region and all of Iraq. Later, she became a fierce advocate for Kurdish rights and women's rights.

Committing to Inclusion

Whether it’s questioning the absence of women in decision-making spaces, calling out discrimination, or taking action to promote gender equity, each of us has a role to play. By embracing the diversity of women—across race, age, ability, faith, body image, and identity—we can truly make strides towards inclusivity in all fields.

As we embark on this journey of inspiring inclusion, let’s not forget the power of collective action. Organizations, groups, and individuals worldwide can make a difference—in the community, at work, at home, and beyond. From economic empowerment to leadership development and from healthcare access to sports participation, there are countless ways to #InspireInclusion. And this will advance the rights and opportunities of women and girls everywhere.

Here at Canoo, we’re committed to celebrating International Women’s Day by highlighting the stories of Canadian immigrant women who have been trailblazers in their fields. Stay tuned for our upcoming series, where we’ll feature remarkable women who have made invaluable contributions to Canadian society. Get ready to be inspired by their resilience, determination, and unwavering pursuit of excellence.

As we celebrate International Women’s Day 2024, let’s reaffirm our commitment to creating a world where every woman’s voice is heard, valued, and celebrated. Happy International Women’s Day!
