Spending two weeks in Yukon gives you the perfect amount of time to explore the region fully! Yukon is home to majestic mountains, pristine lakes, and abundant wildlife, making it a haven for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers, while also having a rich history all over. We have drawn up an itinerary of key spots and activities for you to make the most of your time.

Day 1-2: Whitehorse

Begin your trip in Whitehorse, the capital of Yukon, where you can visit the MacBride Museum to learn about the history and culture of the region. Make sure to explore Miles Canyon and the Fishladder for scenic walks and photo opportunities. In the summer, take advantage of the warmer weather with a boat tour on the Yukon River to see the beautiful landscape from the water.

Day 3-4: Kluane National Park

From Whitehorse, drive to Kluane National Park – a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to 17 of Canada’s tallest 20 mountains, including Mount Logan. Here, you can take a flightseeing tour to see the imposing glaciers and ice fields from above and enjoy hiking trails, like the King’s Throne or Soldiers Summit. If you have the chance, try to organize a boat tour ahead of time to see Kathleen Lake or even go fishing to slow down after the beautiful hikes.

Day 5-6: Dawson City

Drive approx. 7 hours north from Kluane to Dawson City to experience a historic gold rush town. Visit the Jack London Museum and the Dawson City Museum to learn more about the Klondike Gold Rush. You’ll even be able to try your luck at gold panning just like it was done back then!

Day 7-8: Tombstone Territorial Park

Just outside of Dawson, you’ll find the rugged beauty of Tombstone Territorial Park. Hike along the scenic trails by Grizzly Lake that is surrounded by towering peaks making it a serene and awe-inspiring destination. Keep an eye out for wildlife, such as bears, moose, and mountain goats. Consider attending cultural events or workshops at the Tombstone Interpretive Centre to make the most of your time here.

Day 9-10: Dempster Highway and Tombstone Mountains

Continue enjoying this area with hikes in the Tombstone Mountains! Here, you can easily capture the picturesque scenery and bounds of wildlife with your camera. Then, you can begin your trip back along the Dempster Highway. Fun fact: It is the only highway in Canada that reaches the Arctic Ocean! You don’t need to venture that far north to see the beautiful arctic tundras, but it is definitely an item on your bucket list that you didn’t know you needed to cross off.

Day 11-12: Northern Yukon and Wildlife Viewing

After heading north on the Dempster Highway to experience the remote and wild regions of Yukon, you can truly take in the beauty of the midnight sun during summer! We recommend taking a guided wildlife tour to safely and respectfully spot caribou, muskoxen, and other Arctic animals.

Day 13-14: Haines Junction and Southern Lakes Region

On your way back to Whitehorse, visit Haines Junction and enjoy the stunning views of the St. Elias Mountains. Explore the Southern Lakes region, including Marsh Lake and Tagish Lake, where you can wrap up 2 weeks of outdoor adventures with water activities like kayaking or canoeing. While you head back to the airport in Whitehorse, take in the last burst of nature along the scenic drive of the Alaska Highway.

Remember to check weather conditions, road accessibility, and any necessary permits before venturing into remote areas. Additionally, make sure to pack appropriate clothing, camping gear if needed, and sufficient food and water supplies for your outdoor adventures. These are very remote regions and require a lot of research and preparation to safely travel to. There are also guided tours throughout the more remote areas of the territory to ensure safe travels.
